Why Use Ecoblanket?:

Why Use Ecoblanket?

It works

After 4 years we have worked on hundreds of Ecoblankets and have progress photos of dozens of them. (Click here for photos). We can supply a list of sites that have been treated, but you probably won't be able to find them very easily. By now, they should have blended into the surrounding ecosystem and the Ecoblanket® should be virtually undetectable.

We can also back up our claims that Ecoblanket® will trap 99% or more of the sediment moving through groundwater through scientific testing done initially at San Diego University and then replicated by the NSW Dept of the Environment and Climate Change.

Research and Development

Ecoblanket® has been used for over a decade in the USA and is held as Best Management Practice by many local government bodies (click here for an excerpt from an article on California Department of Parks and Recreation Best Management Practice and by John McCullah from Salix Applied Earthcare). The idea of using Ecoblanket® for erosion control and revegetation was introduced in Australia by Tony Rees of Groundworks in 2005. Since then he has been refining the process to suit very different Australian conditions.

Through constant testing and upgrading of methods, Groundworks is able to offer an erosion control solution that is reproducible time after time. Our process guarantees that your site will have an excellent chance of successful rehabilitation.

Groundworks does its research on every site and guarantees that its Ecoblanket won't end up like this hydroseeding, jute matting or ordinary compost blanket.

Environmentally Friendly

Ecoblanket® contains no plastics, petrochemical based tackifiers or other synthetic materials. It is a combination of compost, seed and Microblend® which is an environmentally friendly tackifier made from 70% locally sourced organic products.

Once it has served its purpose, Ecoblanket® can be left in place. It will never need removal nor will it adversely affect the surrounding ecosystem. It does not leach nutrients and compost treated areas have very low soluble salts in the run off. Ecoblanket® can absorb up to 10 times its own weight in water and will trap and assist in the degradation of hydrocarbons and heavy metals before they end up in waterways. Microblend encourages the growth of mycorrhizal fungi.
